Bluetooth

The Twiddler operates in both Wired, via USB, and Wireless, via 4.2 BLE. When in Bluetooth mode, the Twiddler must be paired before it will start sending keystrokes and mouse data to your host device.

Multiple Device Pairing

You can pair your Twiddler with many different Bluetooth devices. The Twiddler stores the last 8 devices it has paired with in its Paired Device Table (PDT). This FIFO table records all the information required to make a quick connection to a new host device.

For security reasons, the Twiddler 4 will only connect to one host at a time. Connecting to another device that is already in the Twiddler's PDT is as simple as turning off the Bluetooth of the currently connected host, which sends the Twiddler into the scanning mode, and turning on the Bluetooth of the other host. The Twiddler will find the new host's credentials in the PDT and do a quick connect with it.

If you have more than one paired Bluetooth device in range, the Twiddler will connect with one of them. Which one of them it connects with is based on where in the scanning cycle the host happens to be in at the time the Twiddler detects it. There is no preference given to any paired device in the PDT when scanning for a new host. It will pair with the first device in the PDT that it detects.

Power Saving

In order to conserve power, you can set the Idle Sleep Mode in Twiddler Tuner. After a defined period of time of inactivity, no button presses or mouse movement, the Twiddler will go into a sleep mode. This sleep mode deactivates the Bluetooth Radio and disconnects from the host device. In order to wake up the Twiddler from sleep mode, just push down on the Touchpad as you would issue a “right mouse click”. You will see the Status LED blink while the BT Radio is reactivated and repaired with your host device. This is usually done automatically and within 2-5 seconds. Actual pair times vary and are dependent on your host device. You can use the Twiddler as usual once the pairing procedure has completed. The Status LEDs will stop blinking once the pair has completed.

Radio

The Twiddler 4 uses the EByte E73-2G4M08S1C radio.

USB 3 Port

If you have a Bluetooth dongle connected to a USB 3 port on your host, you may experience decreased Bluetooth performance. Popular motherboard manufacturers, like Asus, have white papers on this subject.

Here are links to:

the Asus white paper: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1004004/

the Intel white Paper: https://www.usb.org/sites/default/files/327216.pdf

The easiest solution to mitigate the RF interference is to get a USB extender cable and plug the dongle further away from the host's USB 3 port.
